Finally end their holy journey at Shri Badrinath Dham (Chamoli), the only Dham sacred to Lord Vishnu also known as Badrikashram, is the holiest of all the Char Dham temples where Lord Vishnu resides in his avatar of Badrinarayan. Located at an altitude of 3,300 meters along the bank of Alaknanda River, the temple is also known for its Garhwali wooden architecture, apart from religious significance. As per one of them, Lord Vishnu once performed a rigorous meditation at this place. The meditation was so intense that he didn’t care about the weather conditions. To protect him from the scorching heat, Goddess Lakshmi took the shape of a Badri tree and spread over him. Lord Vishnu was so pleased by Goddess Lakshmi’s devotion that he named the spot as Badrikashram.
